What is True Wireless Stereo (TWS) Technology?

If you have recently considered buying wireless headphones or speakers, you have heard about TWS (True Wireless Stereo) devices, and specifically TWS technology. In this post we will tell you what it is, how it works, how to use TWS devices and what advantages they have.

What is TWS?

As its name suggests, True Wireless Stereo is a technology that allows the connection and reproduction of sound without the need for cables. This means that, when a device is TWS, in addition to being able to connect with the speaker or earphone, it can also connect with a third device.

There are three connected devices, each with its own function:  

  1. Transmitter and player device: It is usually the smartphone, the computer or the tablet and its function is to send the signal to the device that will reproduce the sound through Bluetooth.
  2. Master device: It is the device that receives the signal and reproduces it while forwarding it to a third device.
  3. Slave device: It is the one that receives the signal from the master device and reproduces it.

Thanks to this technology, this speaker allows you to connect and receive the signal from a transmitting device, for example a smartphone, and add an additional speaker. This connection offers several possibilities and advantages, but the most important thing is that it allows you to double the power of the sound or extend the range of the sound. It can be used in rooms to create an immersive audio system or at a party with friends to turn up the volume to the maximum.

Even though every device is different, most TWS devices are very easy to use. In the case of speaker ARA P-50, you just have to turn on the devices and press the TWS sync button.

What are the advantages of TWS technology?

Freedom of movement: Thanks to TWS technology, cables are eliminated, which allows greater freedom of movement. You can take your speaker with you without having to connect it by cables to the player device. In addition, the new models allow much wider connection ranges so that you can separate the devices up to more than 15 meters. 

Lightness: By not carrying cables and having more compact systems, TWS devices are usually designed to be portable and that you take them wherever you want.

Easy to use: Although TWS technology may sound complex, the connection between devices is done automatically at the push of a button, so there is no need to waste time on syncs.
